Part of the UT Health San Antonio.
Omicron Kappa Upsilon is the national dental honor society. Established in 1914, OKU has grown to include component chapters throughout North America. Mu Nu Chapter is the OKU component chapter chartered in 1973 at the University of Texas Health Science Center at San Antonio Dental School.
The goals of Omicron Kappa Upsilon include the recognition of individuals who distinguish themselves in the pursuit of excellence. Members are selected from among the highest ranking students in the Senior class. Election to OKU includes an assessment of the student's character as well as academic performance. Election to OKU is the highest honor that may be given to students and carries with it the knowledge that election to this organization is universally recognized as the finest of achievements. Those who are selected represent the future of dentistry.
Faculty members who have dental degrees may also be elected to membership and are recognized that they have contributed to the art, science, or literature of dentistry. Non-dentist faculty members may also be elected if they have made a substantial contribution to the art, science or literature of dentistry. Again, election to OKU is one of the highest honors in the dental profession.
